March 2019:

  • Saturday, March 9, 2019—10:00 am central time: Basque Wine—The Revolution of Txakolina—presented by Keri Lesh, CSW and Ph.d candidate. Kerri Lesh will share her journey into the world of Basque wine through her experience in service industry, education as a Certified Specialist of Wine, and more currently, through her time living in southern Basque Country while researching Basque language and wine. From the people to the land and the grapes, join us as Kerri discusses the evolution of txakolina (and how it even migrated to Chile!) into today’s iconic Basque wine. Suggested taste-along wines: Any txakolina that you can get your hands on from one of the three D.O.s: Getariako Txakolina, Arabako Txakolina, and Bizkaiko Txakolina! Some of the most commonly found “txakolinak”  imported are those made by Txomin Etxaniz, Amestoi, Artomaña’s Xarmant, and Doniene Gorrondona.

  • Saturday, April 20, 10:00 am: Wines of Oregon: From Blueberry Supreme to Voodoo Vintners – presented by Lucia Volk, CWE: Oregon winemakers have consistently had an edgier and earthier reputation than their bigger and bolder neighbors in Washington State and California. While Oregon is an important player on the high-end wine market, and sets the bar high in sustainability, it is also known to be extremely low-key.  This webinar will cover Oregon’s fascinating wine history and geography, and introduce a few major personalities, so you can appreciate just how different Oregon’s story is. And you may well ask, what will it take to keep Oregon weird?

 

May 2019:

Nickles, CSE, CWE: Teaching consumer-based wine classes is a great way to earn your chops as a wine educator (not to mention a deep-and-wide source of potential revenue). Nickles, CSE, CWE: A few years ago a group of us did a wine-and-food tour of Rioja, stopping at wineries and restaurants as well as walled cities, wine fountains, and majestic cathedrals. Join us for a trip to the historic López de Heredia Winery, the titanium hotel at Marqués de Riscal, Laurel Street in Logroño, and other food-and-wine hotspots throughout Rioja! Suggested taste-along wine: Red Rioja Crianza!
