Exam Policies

Day of Exam: Candidates should plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to their exam time. They are required to bring a government issued, photo ID. Names on exam registration must match the ID.

Results: Results will be mailed out 2-4 weeks after an exam, except in the case of the CWE and the CSE, when results will be returned within 4-6 weeks.

Scores will not be given over the phone, but candidates who register online may check their Account page to see their posted results.

Pearson Rescheduling: CSW and CSS candidates must reschedule through Pearson’s website. Rescheduling must be completed 48 hours prior to the exam time and there is a fee of $25.

CWE and CSE Candidates who wish to reschedule may do so through our website as long as it is at least two weeks prior to the exam date. Please visit your Account  by logging in, clicking on “Exams and Seminars.” You’ll be shown your exams and may click “cancel.” This will return your Exam Credit which you may use to register for any other available exam. Candidates who wish to reschedule within two weeks of their exam date, will be assigned a $150 Late Reschedule Fee. Please contact our office for late rescheduling.

No Shows: Candidates who do not appear to take their scheduled exam, will forfeit their exam registration fee, and will have to repurchase their Exam Credit. Candidates must contact the SWE office prior to an exam in order to reschedule a CWE or CSE Exam. You cannot reschedule an exam after your original exam has occurred.

Cancellation Policy: The Society of Wine Educators reserves the right to cancel physical exams with fewer than five registered candidates. Cancellation decisions will be made two weeks prior to the exam date. Cancellations made by the Society of Wine Educators will not incur fees for candidates.

Refund Policy: The exam refund rate is 50% of the original exam cost, less materials. Candidate cancellations that occur within two weeks of a registered exam date will result in a forfeiture of all exam fees. Refunds must be requested within six (6) months of the original order date.
