The newly launched Hospitality/Beverage Specialist Certificate (HBSC) is an entry-level, beverage knowledge program designed to fulfill the needs of the hospitality and culinary industries and their employees.

The HBSC may be completed as an online self-paced, self-study program. The exam registration fee includes a copy of the HBSC Study Guide, access to the Online HBSC Course, and an Online Exam.  Successful completion of the Online HBSC Exam – conveniently accessible after registration – will earn candidates the Hospitality/Beverage Specialist Certificate.

The Hospitality/Beverage Specialist Certificate provides a broad base of knowledge, covering all commercially relevant beverages, not just wine or spirits. The program's content covers: water, coffee, tea, soft drinks, beer, sake, cider, wine, and spirits & mixology. All of these topics are presented in an online course, complete with study aids and practice quizzes.

Once candidates have purchased the HBSC Registration through the SWE Catalog, they will receive an email within 48 hours providing their login information to the Online Course. Candidates will receive one hour to complete the forty multiple-choice question exam at the end of the Online Course. Exam questions are drawn from the HBSC Study Guide.

Visit the Online Beverage Specialist Course for a preview of the program.

For candidates wishing to take a hardcopy exam, physical exams are offered throughout the year in numerous locations in both the United States and abroad. Please check the Exam & Seminars calendar for a current list of exam dates and locations.
